I wouldnt have thought it would be too hard to stop everyone from 1. trampling gardens, 2. Parking on private property and 3. Urinating in inappropriate places and thus resolve the issues with the complainants and continue racing at steel river, Would it??

Haddo,

The urinating could be dealt with fines and suspension by the Commissaires. The other things require much more active management by the clubs, and they do not have the manpower to do that.

Its such a shame we cant just tell everyone not to do these things and then the problem is solved.

Haddo,

Like the way the riders' are told every Friday, "Turn safely, there are other grades on the course finishing soon", which unfortunately my mate Jamie didn't hear, or, obey road rules to and from racing, but numerous people ride home three abreast, run red lights, and generally attract unwanted attention. Maybe it's that easy that if we just tell all these people the problem will be solved!! Now, why didn't the clubs think of that? You're a thinker Haddo. I bet you're an A grader.......?

Fair call Ferret, you make a good point. Come to think of it there is no common sense requirement when signing up is there.

Ferret,

These very topics were discussed @ the TOK @ 3Beans this morning - shame you were not there.  Several well known A graders - one of whom I know is a dialy lurker - run red lights all the time.  All such flagrant breaches of the law - which they would not do in their motor vehicles but do on a bike - just give car and truck drivers reasons to bag us all out, as happened on 60 Minutes last night.  My view is that Commissaires should give warnings, then fines, then suspensions, for dangerous riding home from racing.  But, one would hope commonsense and a sense of self preservation might prevail, one day.

Metro,

I saw the 60 mins segment on cycling and it didnt reflect poorly on cyclists. I can see why some cyclists get a hiding on the roads, it is hard to respect cyclists when they are constantly running red lights and riding with utter disregard for road rules.  I think the idea of fining riders or issuing bans for out of racing conduct could be a good thing, as all of these incidents reflect poorly on us as a whole.

How do you boys propose the Commissaire fine these people for "illegal road incidents" to and from racing? Does he rely upon the word of everyone, or a select few? What if someone thinks someone else is a knob, gets a few mates to provide the weight of evidence for them, puts them into the Commissaire? The Commissaire must act on the weight of evidence. The bloke would be gone.

Most guys know who runs red lights on the way home. Just ride in the bunch and you will see. They come from HD, KC and North Sydney (no surprises there). Therefore, the Commissaire could wipe these guys tonight and ring them, saying have a couple of weeks off. Now, there is a suggestion. Anyone who is seen running the red lights, witnessed by 3 or more people, should be told the next time they attend the sign on table of the respective club who held the race, no thanks, ride home on your own. You are not welcome here for the disrepute you bring the sport into. Bye Bye. Shalom

The Commissar would need somebody who seems to know what's going on. You know....has all the mail. He could advise the Commissar on who needs to be punished for their pre & post race transgressions. It'd help if his identity was secret so retribution for a fine or suspension couldn't be directed at him. Surely somebody fits the bill?

The same way a Commissaire considers complaints from cyclists about any alleged incident in a race - he/she conducts an investigation, ensuring natural justice is afforded to the "cyclists of interest", then makes a decision.  I am not sure where it is said that a Commissaire has to actually witness an event, either in a race or while under the Commissaire's control (such as riding home from a race).

Metro,

It is not stated anywhere that the Commissaire must witness an event, my point was that it could potentially be open to abuse by sheer weight of numbers. By the way son, how do you know I wasn't at said 3BTOK on Monday morning......?

Robbo,

I am simply contributing to the argument. I don't have a firm answer. I am interested to see what the consensus on this topic is.

Crank Yanker,

You would make a great politician with such subtlety. Perhaps you could be the new President at HD?

Thats the way ferret, dont let them all pick on you.

Are you ok? After reading thru this thread I was getting very concerned as it seemed you almost agreed with someone and actually were interested in "the consensus on this topic". You turned it around nicely tho, well done.

Haddo,

Careful son. I agree where necessary AND offer praise. When a distinct lack of common sense has been engaged, or just stupidity, The Ferret steps up to the mark to teach. Otherwise, everyone will just be eternally dumb. I want people to think through this one before throwing comments out there randomly. It has merit but could be prone to abuse. What if a kid was from Alice Springs and everyone wanted to pick on him, go and tell the Commissaire of his indiscretion with numbers behind them, the kiddy would get wiped for a while. Now, no one wants to see an abuse of justice, or a misabuse of process. get my drift. Shalom

Another great point ferret, I think at times you are simply misunderstood. I am impressed by the compassion you have shown towards your fellow cyclist of late not only by looking out for minorities but also being active in the strive to rid our community of bullying by educating individuals and making them aware how their suggestions, if implemented, could actually be used to oppress others.
