Maitland Training Tuesday & Thursday
« on: April 12, 2011, 08:11:54 am »
6am from the Maitland info centre where the train used to be.
It is basically rolling hills around the back of Maitland, Butterwick etc.
Tuesday goes for 1 hour. It was my first time there today. It was a good pace around 36-38km/h until the last 15mins where the A graders (I hope they were) & spokey
took off.
They don't seem to slow down up the hills. I noticed this at Black Hill on Sat too, compared to them it's like I am riding up hills in reverse. The gap between me and them is huge and may never be breached. But by turning up I have started.

It is the best training ride outside I have had in years.

I too was there today - i have been three times and not yet stayed until the end. Unfortunately got spat off the back fairly early today - took a turn too early and couldn't handle it. They usually go flat out - they have been much faster than today - and yes don't seem to slow down up the hills. I'd say probably the fastest regular training pack i have ever ridden with.

Wait till the thursday ride when they really hit the hills - I stand no chance.

Do you live in Maitland DW? if so are you interested in any afternoon rides?

That was easy today? It can only make us stronger. It is very similar to race intensity.
I intend to be there on Thursday.
I work in Thornton but I do not ride after work. I finish late & I don't like riding in the dark with cars.
I saw you there. I had a red shirt on and one of the few without Ted's Bike shorts.

i wouldn't necessarily call it easy today, but i have seen them go hard at the start going up Bolwarra hill and keep it up for most of the ride. I hope you like going up hills fast - you'll have fun Thursday. I try to avoid big hills as much as possible. You probably won't see me out till next school holidays - I hate early mornings. What grade are you in DW?

I am in B grade on the precipice of C. Hence the commencement of the arse busting training sessions.

No point me turning up if the Walrus is being dropped.  Otherwise, that wouldn't be a bad thing.  Les Morgan used to run some really good rides from there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays some years back.

You may want to rephrase:
"HJ do you ride?"

If you know anyone who rides arvos in Maitland i'm keen for some company - find it hard to push myself without someone riding with me and can't really do mornings because i have sleeping issues and would basically be getting no sleep

Sorry Giant, only mornings, and as the Walrus noted, not real often.  However, the Tue and Thur morning rides sound OK, although, I thought the Ted's people weren't real keen on others joining in.

HJ,

They must let anybody ride. There are at least 2 MTC triathletes. Spokey & Craig.
They don't wait anyway, except at the coffee shop.
Today was harder than Tuesday as there were more hills.
Around 8 started.
The 3 machines and I turned around at the half way mark.
By the next hill I was gone. I couldn't even sprint up the hills as fast as they ride.
Luckily there were others that turned around when they saw the 3 come back so I was able to follow them otherwise I would have gotten lost.
40km ride up & down most of the way until the last 10mins. Race intensity. Excellent training for B'Hill or K'gang.
There are guys in C & D grade that go. There are less hills on Tuesday.
