We do try our best MC.

You will note on the program the 1000m moto challenge. The challenge has been laid down by Craig Chapman and will be a flying start, 1000m behind the derny.

The rider with the fastest time at the end of the challenge (which I believe to be the end of this month but Craig has not finalised this yet) will win the $100 sponsored by Craig. Any other prospective sponsors who would like to add to the prize bin would also be welcome.

There will be a maximum of 3 attempts per race night (due to time constraints) and the challengers are at this stage limited to A graders only.

On Wednesday Craig was the first rider to lodge a time, and did a 1.04.21. Steve Lewis then did a creditable 1.04.4 on 81 rollout. Max Halsdedt then had a go and went too fast too early and bailed out with a lap to go. It was pretty exciting stuff as all 3 riders were travelling at 65kph or more with their front tyre tucked in as close as possible to the roller. So at this stage Craig's money is safe but no doubt there will be plenty of A graders busting to get their hands on the $100.

The banter between the riders is also entertaining as all believe they will be the quickest. So anyone with a spare hour and a half of a Wednesday night come along and enjoy the complete program. There is a canteen operating with Spagetti Bol, Tea, coffee, cans of coke & Solo etc, home made cakes & slices, mars bars etc. Racing starts at 7.30pm and will be finished at 9, hence getting you home nice and early.

Hope to see plenty of you there.

Robbo

There are some not in A grade who are quite keen to have a go - me included.  Is there some chance the event might be opened up to other grades?

Metro,

A graders only at this stage, a couple of reasons for this;
1. time limits mean that not all A graders will even have the opportunity to lodge a time before the end of the month.
2. the speed and endurance required to crank out what ends up being 7 laps flat out after 3 laps getting up to speed, would result in our non A graders not being in touch with the derny at the end of the effort.

Lets see how this one goes, and we can massage it a bit for some more challenges next year. Its definitely something to look at having some training towards.

I will put in a booking to have a go at this on the 23rd, can't do it earlier as I don't want to smash myself so close before going away racing in opens on the weekend, it will take me 4 days to recover from the sort of effort required to do it.

Hmm.  Now it's a very fast time of 1.01.80 ish to beat.  Still interested Boostie?

Note.  Reece has done this on junior gears.

Pete Lewis (little Pete) gave it a fair shake too.

another good night of racing once again, although there were only 4 C grade riders leading us to be grouped in with the b graders or the d graders, hopefully there will be more riders next week.

Yeah, lots of functions on at the moment keeping people away. You will note however that the C graders werent dropped until the very last part of their races with B grade. Some messages there for riders of both grades!!

Also, Craig Chapman has decided to keep the 1000m moto challenge open until the end of February as he wants a second go. This will open it up to more riders than just A graders, particularly considering only 2 riders put their hand up for an attempt last night. Boostie has booked his attempt in well in advance, if others could do the same it will make organising the nights a lot easier. For anyone who hasnt done a few practice runs, please do so before you book your run. Craig tells me Reece's time resulted in an average of over 57kph, and Reece reported that there were sparks coming off the roller bracket as it touched the ground when the derny went through the transitions. You will need to be comfortable with travelling at speed if you are to have a go.

Thanks again to the 28 riders and also the spectators who turned up last night. 27 riders had a good night and there was some noticeable applause at times from the grandstand. All good stuff.

He has it set up as a fixie. I will probably do a bit of circle work on it of a Saturday before you guys get there. If I catch the bug I will remove it from his possession.

Wont race it though as I reckon the race nights need the extra people on the infield to keep it running smoothly. Hillbilly has learnt how full on it is doing some of the work there and I have appreciated his efforts greatly. There are still some improvements to be made I reckon so I will keep working on it.

We all look forward to the day Robbo returns as a rider - Junior's talent must come from somewhere, and while we all suspect it may be Junior's mother we all have this slim hope that it may be in some way be as a result of some influence from Robbo 8).

That said, the Velodrome race nights runs very very smoothly, due in part to the fine efforts of Robbo and his co-workers.

So does that mean you will be turning up to the track before dawn as to not scare anyone away from wearing lycra and riding a bike.
