Hexam Bridge interchange
« on: September 26, 2010, 04:50:00 pm »
Hey peeps travelling from maitland way headed toward newcastle was just wondering if we are required by law to use the newly built bike/pedestrian path where the green bike lane ends ? or can we still travel in the lane where motorist come off the bridge and head towards newcastle.
reason i ask is i took the road option today due to there being so much debris all in the green painted bike lanes . they use to be cleaner when the lanes for bikes werent there :P

cheers

I take into account the time of day and the amount of traffic.  It can be dangerous trying to use that lane if there's too much traffic.  If we expect the RTA to provide us with bike lanes, my opinion is that we should use them when they are there.  I'm not sure where you would stand legally if you were hit using the merge lane.

Lads

Been using this bike lane at the hexham lights on my rides, but make sure you give way to traffic coming off the bridge they have the right of way...........

As someone who has ridden and driven from both directions, I use the path whenever I can do so safely, but more often than not will "take the" southbound lane until I can safely and lawfully merge into the kerbside feeder lane. Thing to note is it is a complex intersection that has changed in recent times, so drivers are focused on getting through the intersection rather than looking for middle aged people on bicycles, so keep ya wits about ya!
Well, no merger so far....

I work at Beresfield and ride through hexam most days. Heading east i use green bike lane as far as hungry jacks light then turn left and go under bridge through Sandvic access road(note this is a private access road with gates but i have never seen them locked during the week) and onto old Maitland road till hexham rsl. this is much easier than staying on hwy. Heading west i use bike path that starts just as you go towards overpass and bings you out at the hungry jacks lights( still see riders pusing there luck trying to jump acroos two lanes.)

Oh, I accept I am middle aged.  Went to The Delaney for dinner a month agoand felt most of the partons could have been my children, had I been able to find a woman who found me attractive when I was a skinny 20 year old.  I think putting on weight has made me more attractive, in a Any Which Way but Lose bikie kind of way...more dots for effect...
Well, no merger so far....

Yeah Metro, you do remind me of Clive. Can't say he is that attractive though.

I thought it was Clyde, not Clive.

Do you look like Sondra Locke (then, not now)?

Mea culpa Metro Computer (sorry....Commuter).

You are correct.

I have difficulty with my movie history as that film came out in 1978 and I was
not born as yet.
