Hard Ride
« on: August 30, 2010, 10:10:36 pm »
Went to the top of Mt Sugarloaf today and I dont mind hills but it was crazy steep at a couple of points.
I even had to stop for a minute before one of the really bad parts and recover.
Great view from the lookout area, could even see the coal ships waiting to come into port.
Hit 82kmh on the way back down - my fastest ever on a bicycle!

You should go try Nowendoc, out of Gloucester. That is the daddy of all hills around here.

dont mention that place to Randy, he zones out, goes pale, his eyes glaze over, and he gets this vacant look that is even more vacant than normal when he thinks of that place.

Mark,

try Elbrook Drive in Rankin Park on your way out to the loaf. That will get you going, and you KNOW you have ride up the thing becuase turning around & going the other way isnt much better.

None of them have ridden up your driveway. You need a run up from Charlestown.
keep it rubber side down

The race at Seaham was again very good.
There are a few inclines that can have an impact.
C & B were combined as there were 5 x C graders.
It was a fast pace driven by a few B graders and the Matt Taylor in C grade.
The cousre is an out and back 20km x 2 laps.
Around the first witches hat they attacked hard and split the pack. Then it was 10km of high speed riding taking turns to keep the gap. Matt & I were the survivors in C grade.
Thankfully at the 2nd lap the pace dropped off a bit but there were still some more surges.
I find the surges are hard to keep up with. I have to start accelerating when the first person goes not just the person in front of me.
Every witches hat was also a chance the B graders took to accelerate very hard. It does not pay to go around hats at the back of the pack.
It was a sprint finish in the end. Matt rode very well and from that race looked at home in B grade.

BlackHill this Saturday. More C graders would be nice because I don't think I will be able to keep up with B on that course.

Try the mongrel of a thing in the wet! At least it keeps the neighbours entertained. When the grip is non existent I can assure you that bike shoes do not help when you have to bail out half way up as the back tyre loses traction.

Geez Robbo, I wouldn't even consider taking on your drive.  You must be one tough dude.
