.

The shortened Blackhill course..., with almost no place for rest and, strangely, tougher than the normal BH course

I can only speak for F Grade:

We had quite a competitive race at the Gang on Saturday, including a tight finish.

Personally, I would have raced at BHill because I need to practice those sort of downhills for the TT  but I suspected that I would find the shortened course quite difficult without the rest before re-ascending the hills.
I am (blissfully) unaware of the reasons for the two races being held, but it suited us in F Grade to race with KOCC.

DW - you are in luck, at least in terms of my absence. I must take my kids to a rock concert put on by Rosie. They have sausages there too. MC

More may be know re why no joint race alst Satursday later today.  What you say about it suiting F grade to race at KI and not BH is probably right, and probably applies to E and possibly D grade and some in C grade as well. It is a difficult issue for HDCC and KOCC to manage, as each have some members who prefer BH to KI and each has other members who prefer KI to BH.  I'd bet numerically KOCC has more riders in the lower grades than the upper grades, and HDCC has more in the upper grades than in the lower grades.

What is an issue at KOCC is a fair number of the higher grade riders feel they are not catered for by KOCC.  Joint racing was introduced (with some opposition from the non-racing part of the KOCC Committee) to try to have people from all grades in both clubs race both circuits, and so provide the larger fields that are always better racing than having small grades. I am told there were three people in a combined A and B grade at KOCC last Saturday. I am betting the field for C grade at KOCC was also small, as a fair number fo the usual KOCC C graders raced at BH (as they should have).
Well, no merger so far....

DW

Hilljockey has been testing his road bike for signs of life but there has been no response, so he had to put it down.

I have had 2 weeks off riding. That is the longest period off the bike for me for about a year.
I raced my best time on a 38km track on the computrainer this morning and finished over 2mins behind with a higher average heart rate.
That was only 2 weeks off the bike.

So don't worry Masso I am not a threat on the weekend.

DW, 6 wks no riding and counting.  Had 1 day (and a couple of half days) off work in that time...

It's going to be a long way back.

If my sources are correct, and we all know the answer to that (where is that pesky Ferret?), it would seem to be an internal misunderstanding at KOCC.  A large part of the week to week running of races falls to a couple of people, and both were (and one still is) overseas last week.  With them absent people within KOCC seem to have made an innocent error.

There was nearly a similar problem with this week's joint race at KI as well, and was again an internal communication error at KOCC.  The Treasurer sorted the problem from his hospital bed.

Just remember these people, in KOCC and elsewhere, organise races on a voluntary basis. Be nice to these people, as they mean well.

Still, you wouldn't think following a planned calendar could be botched like that...
