Yes and I noticed you in the small group of stayers at the end, and you'd done some good turns on the front.

Here's hoping Metro doesn't read this thread, I'm trying to stay anonymous...

lets face it guys ,numbers in lower grades are the issue.WHY is it friday night HD races ,the numbers are up   in the lower grades ,no combining c-d,which can be very discouraging .Hence the steel river crit doesn t get the numbers . Is it  (sunday morning with the family  ,other club races or for, me and my husband c-d combined may as well not turn up or am  we just soft).Quite a few years ago port stephens use to race at steel river, but it was a thursday night around 6.00pmand numbers were adequate for 4 grades ........SO GO TO IT GUYS....this crit track could mean alot to the cycling community ,not only as racers but for somewhere where children could learn to ride safely... your doing a great job guys . :) :)
Just to bring this subject back into the loop I hope you received good numbers this morning  at the crit, vet numbers were down so the riders must have been somewhere. So.....how do you  get good numbers to crit races ...whats your thoughts robbo

1) Put money on it
2) Stand alone race. Replace a Kooragang a'noon race with a Steel River Sat a'noon.
3) Cheerleaders

DW,

I have offered to cheer in my mankini but no one has taken the offer up.

Back to topic, sad to say prizemoney seems to attract people, many of whom will never receive any of it. Personally bragging rights mean more to me than a few token dollars in my jersey pocket.

Personally I find the div 1/2 crits great.

hey guys this is something that has always been thrown as a topic at my house ,BUT why not have a season of racing that carries a yellow jersey in each grade of each race of the season.Hence say six -eight jersey for a-b-c-d-e racers(ranging from small tolarge, x-large say hill jockey size to metro ,commando ,)jerseys are held from week to week ,see if you can hold the jersey for long in your grade.Would this bring racers who think they ve got it ....even commando might turn up for this .Friday night world championships with a jersey to win at the end of the series  ...what your thoughts its not just about prize money at the end of the race as metro says its all about BRAGGING rights

Metro with bragging rights, now there's a novel thought...

I dont know the answer to more rider numbers at the crit. The Good Friday races had big numbers with some saying they were there because they could make it when other times they cant. I fit into this group so maybe we just need to make our weeks over 8 days where the 8th day is solely for racing.

I think a crit series is the go. Each club in Newcastle gets to run a race, but it has be differnt courses for each event. If it is the same venue it just has to be a different course. If it is a 5 race series then HD and KO run 2 each and HVV runs one. Thta way we could have decent money on for the over winner of each grade and it would be worth something. Thats my thoughts anyway.

Someone get a hold of Metro's mankini and burn it

 Robbo,

Sounds like a great idea to me.
Hopefully, it would encourage some other F graders  to have a go.
Don't care too much about the money, (well,  I dream, but the chances I would get a share of any is miniscule)
But crits are my favourite type of race.
