Only did 2 races there and think I averaged 32-33kmh.
Not going back till they fix the roads - I would rather ride around town on my own than ride on that crap.

Any questions on handicaps should be directed to Metro Commuter. He has plenty of his own and can advise you on any of them accordingly.

The handicaps that Dot Boy has are not legally allowed to be written on a public forum.

Average speeds would be around 34 - 36 in a handicap for E grade on a good day, windy conditions would slow it a bit.

And as for the fixing of the roads it has been announced that repairs on the bad sections will be happening this month, racing might have to be held at a alternate location on the Island or at another course while they are being done.

If you are training at least once a week I would say you should give E grade a go.  If you haven't ridden in a group before it is a lot easier than on your own. You will be surprised that you can hold on if you just stay with them.

Is this a tautology??

As for training only once a week, I wouldn't even hold on to F Grade up to the "bridge" the first lap, if that was all the training I did.

Robbo - lame as your last sprint  :P

Singlespeeder - it is likely that your success in racing, wherever you are graded, will be determined by your skills rather than your fitness.  I found that at least until C grade my fitness was not the limiting factor - it was my inability to draft effectively, failure to corner quickly, and atatcking in dumb places.  Fitness may be more of an issue in A, B and C grade, but there are plenty of riders in C grade (where I currently race) who are much fitter than plenty of riders in B grade (where I have raced before) and some in A grade (I train with some who race in A grade).  The difference between a fit C grader and an effective B grader is how smart they race.  You can deduce from that that I am a dumb and unfit C grader...

In any event, it does not matter - you will, after a few races, end up in the correct grade where you can work on whatever it is that limits you, and when you have done so, move up a grade until you find the upper limit of your abilities.  My view is the best way to improve on race fitness is to race - just riding around solo is not all that helpful unless you have a good program, and there are plenty who have been on programs for years who show no improvement other than a substantial reduction in the weight of their wallet/purse.

My advice, FWIW, is to start racingl

Well, no merger so far....

Good comments. I agree with the "To race well you need to... race!" comment.

If it ever stops raining we might see some more racing action! I am sick to death of the indoor trainer!

To win E grade you may need to gear up a bit...

Don't recall you beating me where there has been a genuine contest.  I do not count where I beat someone for 22nd place, unless it is 2nd Wheel (then any time I am in front is worth bragging).
