HD website
« on: April 28, 2010, 06:33:00 pm »
The HD website is being redone in response to Metro's jibe about it being the worst.

Will still contain essential content, just with a new look.

A work in progress at present but maybe worth a look at:

The website looks good.
Will Hillbilly Jr be looking after the combined KOCC/HDCC website when we join forces in a Many Sea Eagles/North Sydney Bears style partnership?

DW,

Merger? I reckon that if it ever happens it will not be for a while.  KOCC and HDCC have their own internal inertia to overcome, and part of that will always come down to people being concerned about change.

I do not think the Sea Eagles/Bears analogy is useful any more than a Tigers/Magpies analogy would have been, as both involved the effective relegation of one club to a subsidary existence.  KOCC would not want to be the Bear anymore than HDCC would want to be the Bear.

If there is a merger between KOCC and HDCC then it would need to be on the basis that it is a genuine equal merger, and that would involve (I would think) equal representation on the megerd club Committee and any subcommittees. You could do this by guarantees in the Rules (or Constitution, as most people refer to it) of the merged club.  There is a rough draft constitution floating around and in the possession of both HDCC and KOCC, but I have not heard much more about what people think about it.

Metro,

equal reprsentation and continuance of Life Memberships are issues for KOCC so I am told. I think these 2 issues should be first and foremost for any dialogue. I see both clubs as equal despite having strengths in different areas, so equal representation should be a given. Life memberships arent given out lightly and should be respected by all. I believe this to be the case now anyway so it shouldnt be a sticking point.

The single biggest problem with the merger is having to sign on as a member of KOCCHD  ;)
Apologies if this joke has already been ****

C-Y

The current KOCC Crit Champ has made a variant of that joke before.  He has reported, at the propoer Table of Knowledge, that he takes great pride turning up to large races (such as opens) wearing his KOCC kit, for the gloves have "KOCC" written across the knuckles.  He will be even happier if the clubs merge, for his gloves might have "HDKOCC" across the knuckles.

This is one reason why, in the rought draft of the "constitution" for the merged club, I had inserted a post-merger name of "Hunter District and Kooragang Open Cycle Club".  I also thought it was pretty neutral, reflecting the origin of the merged club.  However, much to my disappointment, I have been informed that some within KOCC were upset that HD was mentioned before KO and wanted it to be KOHDCC.  Now that is just silly, firstly because it would not give a smutty acronym and secondly because "Kooragang Open and Hunter District Cycle Club" just sounds - wrong.

Imagine if the merger did not proceed because people can not agree on a name!

That said, I could not care what the merged club is called - you could call it the Happy Happy Joy Joy Club for all I care.

If they merged would KOCC have to change the name of their radio station as well?
KOHDCC FM.

When the clubs merge I believe that a new club name should be used which is not a combination of either clubs present name.

e.g., Newcastle cycling club NCC, then we could use John Tates Council Limo's as lead vehicles and for the council to sponsor the new club.
keep it rubber side down
