Crashes and crashers - are we too harsh to those who crash?
« on: April 02, 2010, 03:43:49 pm »
At about 7.08 am this morning I had this real sense of dread - have I been to harsh to those people who crash?  In recent times many have bagged poor young Constable Snedden out for his serial crashing, and prior to that The Milf, Commuter, The Stojg and iLovell have been the subject of similar barbs.

But, at 7.08am this morning, I immediately regretted the unkind words I had directed to those people, and in particular to Snedden.  Yes, I thought I was funny but what is needed is for the non-crashers to provide support and encouragement to the poor hapless crashers.

So, next time you see a crasher, rather than make a smart comment or put-down, ask "how are you going?  Can I do anything for you?"

Hope your knee is ok; it looked like it might get a bit sore later. By the way i don't think printing retractions and apologies will get you out of some friendly banter (especially from those mentioned in you post).

In the spirit of Austin Powers and his Swedish **** Enlarger, what sore knee???

Red wine - courtesy of Di2 Boy - is proving most recuperative after the 100+ km ride. The hard men rode the whole way...

Metro,

If my sources are correct (and we all know the answer to that), a certain Constable Snedden was seen crouching behind bushes on the F3 Friday morning, at approximately 7.08am, pushing sharp needles into what can only be described as a fat doll. Now, The Ferret does not believe in voodoo, but my sources at NSW Police confirmed that McCrash's quota was down for this shift. I suspect he has hexed you son.

About your question to someone who has fallen, "Can I do anything for you", the accident prone person should just say, "No, I do enough on my own. Please provide me a wider exclusion zone, don't talk to me so I can concentrate. I know I am a bunter. Do not associate with me, you may be tarred with the same brush". Shalom

So that's why the earth moved!

Newcastle and Lower Hunter people are sensitive to ground vibrations since the earthquake.  Careful Metro or you may alarm the general populace...

If you have any spare opsite left The Boostmater may require some after snapping a chain and falling heavily near HD clubhouse. Left the Vets clubhouse after being bandaged looking like the Mummy.

It's actually the road or what ever you hit that is too hard on those that crash, typing this recounting a all too recent experience :P

Son, you might be known as McCrash in cycling circles, but you are simply referred to as Chris in the Casualty section of the JHH.

With my recent chain failures I did a bit of searching around and found this interesting article.

http://cozybeehive.blogspot.com/2010/02/shimano-ultegra-chain-failure.html

It might be a good idea if anyone running these chains gets them checked out.

The chain I snapped on Sunday was a Wippermann 10SX Stainless Chain, I broke a KMC X10 93 Chain racing in the Sutherland crit last year it managed to hold together and I even managed to sprint to 3rd place with it only holding by one side.

Both chains had hardly done any work as I only race on that bike and I had not ridden them in wet weather as I use my other bike when it rains,
The Wipperman had no indication it was going to fail I found out it failed while I was lying on the road wondering what the hell happened.

There may be something in this chain problem.  I, and a few other locals, are trialling a prototype Durace chain - apparently it has a different finishing method.  I have not cleaned it as often as I would normally clean a chain, and have ridden it in all sorts of crappy weather and road conditions, and so far it has not missed a beat.  I understand when I have completed the trial it will go back to Shimano for some kind of analysis.

While I have not (touch wood - not that kind of wood you dirty buggers) snapped a chain, and have mainly used Durace or top shelf SRAM chains, I do feel a whole lot safer on the 1/8 chain on my track bike.  It looks like it is built for strength, and I would always prefer strength over a modest weight saving.
