Im pretty keen to back into pure track sprinting eventually. My old man thinks i'm crazy because I used to be a road sprinter mainly. The problem is i am still 93kg with very little fat to lose, so weight wise its difficult to climb hills. I did alright on the track in my past, but I was racing some top of the line sprinters so it was hard to make a name for myself as an elite track sprinter. While i'll race criteriums locally, I would like to get back up to state level on the track - perhaps im just trying to claw back my youth as i hit the age of 30, guess we'll see what happens when i hit the track again. I look forward to training with some good sprinters on the track - I hope i can keep up.

GiantCFR1,
You seem to have a better memory than me... I dont remember a certain person from Tamworth being able to sprint at all?? I am getting old however and my memory is fading..... Come to black hill and have a race. If your lucky it will be a sprint finish.

really Adrian? :o  do you mean road or track?. I won my state road titles by a sprint. Doug was the time trial and pursuit rider and i was the sprinter (when you guys moved up to the next grade). I couldn't really do anything else apart from sprint. As for track - in my last year i finished second to Benny Kersten in the sprint at the state titles, then never rode again.

I don't know how i'd go in a road race now - I raced a couple of crits and found that i was too puffed at the end to even contest a sprint - that's why i need to get some fitness first - but that's unfortunately a slow process when you work too many hours to train.

I can just see them in the nursing home in  50 years time, racing their electric wheelchairs to get first dibs on the dessert.  Mmmm - dessert...sorry, distracted for uno momento.

Remember  - the older we get the faster we were!  Well, not in my case because I was never fast, but you get the idea.  Cue The Boss "Glory Days"....
Well, no merger so far....

he he - nice comment metro (the older we are the faster we were) its so true -  I try to live in the glory days too much, thinking i am still an elite cyclist when i can't win a C grade club race, always thinking that one day i will regain my former glory. Thanks for the reality check. Love it.

........But it won't stop me from trying. even when im in the nursing home.

Haddo - I think it was 98 - at tempe velodrome. I finished a hundreth of a second behind Kersten in the flying 200m but he nailed me in the sprint. He was far too good on the track for me to beat. :-\

I think I am an elite cyclist when I can win a C grade invitational at Vets!Shite, if people hear me bragging about how I "used to race B grade" or "had more points in the A grade pointscore than most A graders" (turn up to enough wet races and you can place 3rd!).  My past is last year!

I missed this post, and turned up to find it all dark and uninviting...
