Is the cycling world of newcastle ready..?
« on: March 07, 2010, 09:34:43 pm »
Making a comeback can be an arduous task..
I cant help but find the stunning similarities between Micheal Jordan and myself.
Before you dismiss this as forum banter lets look at the stats.....
Jordan= greatest player in basketball history
Thor= Arguably greatest cyclist out of Newcastle
Jordan=switched to another sport (baseball)
Thor= switched to perfecting the perfect male specimen
Jordan = makes his comeback to NBA
Thor= makes his triumph return to the 2 wheel art.

So Thor must have achieved better than:

Joe Lewis - professional racer
Peter Lewis - Aust team sprinter
Olivia Gollan - Aust road champion, Olympian, professional racer
Boxhead - Former world record holder, professional racer
Craig Chapman - professional racer
Brain Radcliffe - NSW masters cyclist of year
Brain Radcliffe, Bill Cox et al - world masters team pursuit champions for many years
Ian Chapman - Comm Games medalist
Bob Ryan - professional racer (very good apparently)
Alan Herbert - professional racer
Gai Monahan - masters champion

Hilljockey,

You left out a few son:

Anthony Peden      2nd world keiren
Ron Baensche      2nd 3 world pro titles (best rider to come out Newy)
Dave Perry   2nd 2 Aust road titles, 3rd at another
Nigel Perry   11th National road title, 1st Grafton-Inverell
Ray Crowe    5 x Suntours (currently in B grade)
Margaret Hemsley   Aust road champion

You also forgot Christian Back. Although, Backy, Boxhead and Thor only achieved at Junior level..........then it got too hard. Shalom

And ...don't forget the champion who has a stand named after him
complete with rainbow stripes
(the signage has just been installed at the Newcastle Velodrome)-

Dennis Blunden, three times world masters track champ.

Monahan,

Once again son, you are on the money. In his day, Dennis would have wiped Thor's arse. Shalom

Thor, you might have once been a great cyclist.

But you have got to be smart to outwit the users of this forum.

I think they have put you in your place this time!

Robbo,

The Ferret is an equal opportunity poster. I call everyone son. I do not discriminate. I am also politically correct, although some people confuse my truth and accuracy as being politically incorrect. I didn't even comment years ago when Thor used to strut around Merewether in what could only be akin to something out of Bruno's wardrobe. Sometimes it is funny to think it, rather than say it, but timing is the key........

WOW, certainly stirred some emotions :)
I congratulate all the real true Champions of Newcastle....  Newcastle cycling should be very proud of all the past results. 
......HOWEVER.....Its all relative really, like RH I plan on making all my glories in the Veterans category. Which leads me to my focus question...
Now that Im officially a Vet with a birthdate in 1980,, Can I race on Sunday mornings with the Vets????  How about if I register at HDCC?  Do I have to identify myself as a vet on my licence??

Many many questions, all in my quest to become ‘National Straight Line Champion!!

Last I heard that they allow MMAS 1 to race, but you might have to check up on that as the MMAS 1 cat has been dropped from championship events due to lack of numbers.

It does not matter what club you join you can race at all their normal vets races, you can only compete in their championship events if your a member of their club.

Not any more as cycling aust have changed the way vets can compete, you can get a elite license and still compete in masters events now, I currently have a elite license and am doing masters events using it.
No longer a Hubbard or a Commuter, just a very naughty boy.

Cheers Boosty,
I will join HDCC but i want to race every sunday morning, as the pace will be more my style at the moment. I heard they didnt allow you too ride even if your over 30+ unless you have a vets licence. Although this could very well have just been a ploy to stop CFNLF&S from racing... :)
