Hmmm.

Friday before last I suffered a puncture in the rough section heading up to the bridge.  So I had to pull out, another DNF.

Yesterday, 2 laps from the finish, I broke a spoke in my front wheel.  While only 1 of 32 spokes, it made the wheel feel unexpectedly flexy to the point where the lawyer in me did a risk assessment and decided I would not contest the sprint.  Shame, because I was actually feeling good and in a good position for the final sprint, and more importantly I was unusually motivated to win.

Kind of sick and tired of the course induced failures.  When I dropped the front wheel off at Hadleys on the way home I looked at the the front wheel, and it had a shipload of dings and scratches.  Take your tyres off the wheels you race with at KI and have a close look - it is a worry.

Some may say (but not me) that you continued failures may be a weight related issue. I'm sure there would be some mechanical equation out there to scientifically prove above problem that you suffer from.

Try good old     F = ma   (Force = mass X acceleration).

  or                            wheel Failure = metro's arse X  Kooragang's asphalt

2ndWheel - possibly.  I had less failure when I weighed 123kg, but then the road was much much better and I was probably  a fair bit slower.

Spandy,

It must be a good 20 years since High School for you - how do you remember that?

Metro C,

You must be thinking of my much older sister!

Highschool wasn't THAT long ago.

(I think I can still remember 4 rows of the periodic table of elements
and the 20 most common minerals found in soil...... that is sad!).

Apologies for being OT their people.

2 laps from the finish and in a good position for the final sprint? Either they start a LOONNG way out, or the final sprint was with 2 laps to go!

I finished the race - I just did not sprint.  Wheel was OK to ride on - I rode back to Hadleys afterwards as well - but a flexy around conrers, so I doubt adding my immense bulk and rough sprinting technique would have been a great idea.

Spandy,

If you're older than Metro, then that would make your sister a COUGAR..........

Metro,

Is there any truth to the rumour that Spencer Tunick personally telephoned you wanting you to pose for him on the steps of the Opera House?

Metro's new Kooragang-proof race beast!

Please pay close attention to the drive train (sweeeeet!) and the customised rear cassette.

Won't help Spandy.  Today Metro dropped his bundle (or something) and while he was chasing back on he got another flat.

Beginning to suspect he has a tyre deflator fitted for use as required.

Interestingly a quick google search returns "ferret tyre deflator".  Has the Ferret knobbled Metro's steed?

Hilljockey,

Metro doesn't need anything knobbled to return a DNF. He must be headed for D grade with Jimmy soon? He said he was looking at changing clubs, but I didn't think HVV was on the radar. However, he may want to learn the HVV secret handshake. It may save him the indignation of dropping two grades in one season. I know of "new" amputees who have not dropped two grades in a season, and that's after losing a limb.

Hilljockey,

You finished well.  Nothing like the fear of being bested by your financially dependent son to spur you on, eh?

Ferrrrrret,

I can DNF without a bicycle failure, but it would be rather nice to bow out of a race under my own steam than have the DNF thrust upon me.  Saw Di2 Boy punctured as well, as did the First Husband of HVVCC, Arnold P.

It was good to see you did not "choke" in A grade today, but how the heck did that break stay away? Did you hear the cheers for you as you went past in The Laughing Bunch?

Key,
Good second on Sunday.
You have a great turn of pace and should be in B grade soon.

Hilljockey,
Nice to meet you yesterday.

Metro,
Have yoiu considered tyre liners? I don't know anything about them but someone sent me an email on them.

Perhaps you could negotiate with the clubs to get a discount on your entry fee.:
a) $7.00 if DNF flat tyre
b) $20.00 if you finish or DNF too tired.
