Another crash.
Bunch ride to Raymond Terrace and back - ride been going for 3 years without incident.
Returning to town along Industrial Drive, just past the new BP near Steel River. A low loader semi with a grader loaded goes past the bunch, which was in single file. Something happens at the tail end of the bunch - probably a slight slowing at the front, as the front of the bunch crested the hill near the Fire Station lights, and that caused those at the rear (who were carrying some momentum from the descent towards the BP) became bunched up on what is a narrow bike "lane" while next to a large wide truck. Someone brakes a bit more than the rider behind him expected, and with really no where to go we end up with two very experienced and safe riders lying on the footpath. Luckily no major injuries - skin and bruises. Minor damage to one bike (scratches, and a rear brake bolt snapped) and the other bike was totalled after it was run over by the truck.
The truck driver pulled up and came back. He did nothing wrong, and was told that.
This was a well controlled ride with experienced riders. No surging or attacks as there are n some other rides. No one, IMHO, seemed to be over extended, and certainly the two who fell were not. Will revisit travelling down Industrial Drive at that time, but what happened this morning can happen to any of the bunch rides. Be careful out there
