There are plenty of fixie riders that ride round in circles every Tuesday evening from 6 PM at Newcastle Velodrome, then on Wednesday nights they ride around in circles even faster from 7 PM.

I will be one of them tonight, not sure about fast but I will be going around none the less ;)

Trejo,

There are a small number - 4 - who do train on their fixies, either alone or in a bunch of freewheelers.  Those 4 are Snedden, Magic Steve Daracott (Steve - get some narrower bars you numpty!), J-Rat (1-1's brother) and me.  Not know of anyone else who does any significant of fixie riding on the roads.

Am I keen for a fixie only ride?  Yep, as long as the ride is diable on an 88" gear.

To those "softies" who do not ride fixie, give it a try!  It is a bloody good workout.

I have a single speed I try to get out on occasionally, & I know Dave from Active gets out quite a bit aswell. Not to forget Josh Taylor ( big hitter) I know of him doing 140km training rides on his single.

drv31t,

Son, when I think smart riders, Joshy isn't one of 'em. He probably calibrated his speedo wrong. Shalom

Well, well, well, Ferret. I don't recall having a friend by that name. Once again jacking a thread with another one of your bits of useless information. You have 235 posts. 200 of them useless, leaving 35 of credit. I think 35 is still a little high, but after seeing your avatar pic, & noticing that you have a hairdresser's car in it, I felt sorry for you.

Till your next steaming pile.....

Im going to have to agree with MC, a SS is no fixie.

Im not training for anything in particular, just wanted to start organising some fixie rides on weekends or something, purely for fun.
i got a mate who does a similar thing in sydney, there are about 50 of them who cut around sydney on their fixies every sunday afternoon then head to a pub.

Agreed that a SS isnt a fixie. I heard Josh rode out to Bingelburra from the Terrace on his bike running 70ish inch gear, not sure if it was fixed or SS.

I thought fixie riding was for the hip, young, cool and rebellious?

"...fixie addicts do it brake-less and become adept at trick riding as they try to look cool when stopping.
Just like skateboarders, even if they fall off they do it gracefully...."

Great to see some of the older members of the Newy cycling scene keeping up with the youngsters!

Metro C, you are an inspiration!

They are just trying to recapture their youth.................... Over the next few weeks they will be seen in hyper-colour T shirts, buying concert tickets to a Darryl Braithwaite concern, getting their carbs from moon rock popping candy and washing it down with Tab

Yep, that is correct!

"...fixie addicts do it brake-less and become adept at trick riding as they try to look cool when stopping.  Just like skateboarders, even if they fall off they do it gracefully...."

Yes, but the smart ones ride with hand brakes when in a bunch.  I did fall off my road bike last Saturday - young rider in front fell - and some commented at my grace when falling, and I was briefly given a nickname "The Ballerina".  Not a thing broken either!

Great to see some of the older members of the Newy cycling scene keeping up with the youngsters! Metro C, you are an inspiration!?

I try to inspire - perhaps I might inspire some of my fellow oldies, like you, Commuter and Ferret, to give track and fixie riding a go.

josh does both fixie and ss rides on up to 102 inch gear
and he rode to dungog
remembered what was still to come
then turned around and rode back over wallaroba
