Quote
6 month licences are available from 1st July each year
Elite               $175
Masters/U19   $135
U17/U15         $90
U13/U11/U9    $90

If you take out a masters license you can only ride masters events at state and national championships.

However you can race in most opens and local races against elite's et al in your respective grade.

If you want to race in elite championship events you will have to get a elite license, you can also race in masters events with a elite license now as well, I have a elite one now as I wanted to do some elite events and am still able to do my masters events as well.

If you join one club you can basically race at any of the others.

Do you want to do any teams events on the road or velodrome ? IE: team sprint, pursuit, madison ?

If so pick a club that has riders that you think you could team up with.

The vets club caters mostly to vets and women for local racing and the lower grades, however this year they seemed to be a lot better represented in the club teams time trial.

HD seems to cater to A & B grade riders mostly with some support for juniors at the crit once a month, the lower grades numbers are thin at most of their events.

KOCC caters mostly to the lower grades and supports juniors quite well, they do support A & B grade riders as well but the numbers are lower than HD.

If your interested in doing masters team sprints and masters team pursuits I have been keen to get teams going at KOCC but always seem to lack enough riders that are interested and will commit to do them, I currently have a elite license as  so can do either masters or elite.

Hopefully the choice of what club to join will be reduced in the future as there is the possibility that HD and KOCC might merge and become one club that caters and supports all Newcastle cyclists.

Boostie speaketh wisely.  In recent times KOCC's A graders have been doing well in CD and State Opens, so the A/B focus is shifting a little.
Well, no merger so far....

Thanks for your input. My focus will be the A and B grade categories. I am hoping to be in B grade by the end of they year and A grade sometime towards the end of next year once i take training seriously. My key goal is to eventually get back on the track and try for state placings in the Elite men - and possibly national and worlds in the masters - mainly in sprint, kieren and kilo, but i am still keen to do some circuit style and crit racing for enjoyment and fitness. I would love to see much more criterium racing happening but i understand there are always issues with organisation, council, etc etc. I am not going to join veterans but its still a toss up between Kooragang and HD. I would also love to get a team together for the team sprint, but are you allowed to have inter-club teams? if so this would also be a possibility.

Years ago when i was racing the HD cyclists would come to the state track championships with Disc wheels etc that belonged to the club. Do they still have equipment that they lend or hire out to riders?

once again thanks for the input. I suppose i better begin some training if i want to race again. My first race will be the next Steel River Crit so i might see you there.

Cheers

Lots of the state teams events championships require you to have riders from the same club.

The club sold off the wheels about 3 years ago.
