Cadel to change teams?
« on: November 01, 2009, 10:34:01 am »
I just caught the last 30 secs of an interview on Wide World Of Sports. At the end, Ken Sutcliff made reference to Cadel still having great drive to win the Tour, & to do so he has changed teams. Thats where it ended, no mention of what team. Has any one heard of where he is going?

No longer a Hubbard or a Commuter, just a very naughty boy.

Sports tonight have just stated that Cadel has split from Silence Lotto, but is yet to do a deal with a new team.

I posted this on the aus cycle forums and it is my run down of the candidates for his new home:

Garmin - The possible Wiggins to SKY switch could still work, if they sub in Evans for Contador in the switcheroo. Good domestiques at Garmin too.

SKY - This is personally where i think he will end up. Have a huge budget, got some good climbing talents (EBH, Lokvist, Gerrans) and they are looking for high placings in GC.

Katusha - Another team with a huge budget and some good domestiques. (Joaquin Rodriguez, Kim Kirchen) but the team is more centred around sprinting ie. McEwen. Isn't it the reason he left lotto because they weren't supporting him in the sprints anymore?

Astana - Don't laugh i'm being serious. Bertie needs a good domestique for a season and then he will be out the door in a flash. So it will be team Cadel. Ok you can laugh, even i don't really see Astana as an option ;D

Lampre - Just thought about this. Cadel's wife is Italian, This italian team just got a new sponsor (albeit the one that was sponsoring team doped up Di Luca ie. Farnese Vini) and Cunego has said himself that he does not see himself anymore as a GC conteder. They had 1.5million euros to buy Di Luca with, so they have got plenty of cash.

Quickstep - Have roster spots open and a big budget (they were trying to sign Bertie) and have made a habit of snapping up lotto talent

That is the run down of my contenders. And if worst comes to worst then i hear Radioshack are still hiring. But you have to have no personal ambition as a pre-requisite for that team.

Also this souce seems to think he has signed with BMC:

So i guess when we find out his future team, it will tell us if:

a. He is trying to cash in on the rainbow jersey or
b. He is trying to go to a team that is built around him

Team BMC have done well to get Cadel there. They seem to have bought well to make a strong squad. I hope they get the wild cards they need to make the big races.

Does that mean Cadel is now not able to ride for Team Rees Pritchard in the Jaxx A grade Teams Challnge on 14 Nov?  ;D Bugger. :'(  Now it will be left to Bunter Hadley, Chai Lord, Swannie and Noodles to get the money.
Well, no merger so far....

TDU will be a great event.  Half thinking of trying to organise a group from Newcastle to travel down, watch some of the race, and participate in support races (but not any bunter community rides).  If you had enough people attending it might be fun.

Fellow Hill Slug,

I can see why you would say that, but thankfully I have not - yet - had a form slump to require me to apply to NCM for membership.  I may be a barely coping C grader, but I have a few grades to work my way through before I am unable to call myself a racing cyclist.
