I spose i cant talk too much about crashes - i've crashed out of all my Australian Championships - and two operations later im still feeling the effects. I also smacked face first into the Road last year while in the middle of a sprint.

Thor's crash at the Canberra Milk Race many years ago was one of the worst i've ever seen. Im suprised he survived it. He hit a bridge railing on a descent and flew over the bridge to the rocks below. He'd made a break at the top of the hill and was about 20 seconds in front. I came onto the bridge to find his bike in the middle of the road but no rider. Most of us stopped and when we looked over the edge he was trying to move. Trying. I'll never forget that tour.

giantcfr1,

If you do see Commando @ racing call "The UFO Australian Research Network Hot Line 1800 77 22 88" - sightings of Commando at racing are less frequent than sightings of other UFOs.  I will leave it to others to explain what UFO refers to in respect to commando ;)

Commando, you would make a good rower, but not a coxswain.  A much harder sport than cycling IMHO, but thankfully no hills.

Singlespeeder,

The ride mapped in the link you posted is kind of part of the Tuesday Hills Ride, which is a tough A grade level training ride. If after you climbed Scenic Dr you turned right down Youll Rd then, at the bottom, turned left to travel to the bottom of Sunhill Dr, then climbed back to the top, that would be close to the Hill Ride east of the Pacific Hwy.  Ride it on your 48-16!  If you can you are better than me - I would struggle to climb parts of Sunhill Dr on my 48-16.

DANGER points in your mapped ride -

  • Descending down Memorial Dr can be dangerous - higher speed, dopey drivers and a complex traffic layout mean you may not be noticed
Cars travel up Scenic Drive at higher speeds, and may be hugging the apex in the lane you are climbing in.
Descending down Scenic Drive can be dangerous when cars become impatient.
