I thought fixie riding was for the hip, young, cool and rebellious?

Yep, that is correct!

"...fixie addicts do it brake-less and become adept at trick riding as they try to look cool when stopping.  Just like skateboarders, even if they fall off they do it gracefully...."

Yes, but the smart ones ride with hand brakes when in a bunch.  I did fall off my road bike last Saturday - young rider in front fell - and some commented at my grace when falling, and I was briefly given a nickname "The Ballerina".  Not a thing broken either!

Great to see some of the older members of the Newy cycling scene keeping up with the youngsters! Metro C, you are an inspiration!?

I try to inspire - perhaps I might inspire some of my fellow oldies, like you, Commuter and Ferret, to give track and fixie riding a go.
Well, no merger so far....
