Hmmm.

I do agree with equality, and it was clearly unfair to have the men able to compete in 7 events in China and the women only able to compete in 3 events.

One wonders why not increase the womens' program to 7 events, same as the men? That would achieve equality.  The real purpose is to effect a reduction in track racing events so some other sport gets an increase.  From memory, wasn't the inclusion of BMX at the cost of track cycling?
