Ebo has said if you ride with one hand on your helmet, like a rooster comb, the magpies will hover over you but not attack. Sure you look dumb, or in my case even dumber than normal, but it seemed to work on the Toule St Bridge Budgie yesterday.  No need to wave your hand about - just hold it up there and wiggle your fingers.

And stay upright with steady steering!!

One would look even dumber  following the above advice and ending down on the pavement!!
(I don't trust my co-ordination that much)

Let me know when the  Tourle St maggie retires for the season, and I will start riding from my daughter's at Mayfield East again.  I often end up on my own returning after races as the "peloton" tends to speed up on the "straight" and I struggle to keep up. So I would have to contend with the flying friend without company.  At present the car is clocking up a few extra k's instead.
