Why not put the bikes in a trailer? We borrowed one and took it to Adelaide with 8 bikes in it and had room for heaps more. we used less than half the space available and didnt have to take any wheels off etc. We just wrapped them all in blankets etc to protect them from any rubbing etc and we had absolutely no damage whatsoever on any of them.
It is an lockable enclosed one with tie down anchor points etc and towed great. Boostie can see if it can be used if you are interested Dot Boy ol fella.
may have to check with the bus company that the bus has a tow bar, but it made life so easy having that trailer with us.
