HJ,

I had not read the article, as I am either working, training or drinking chai, or at least two of those things, but now have.

I am always suspect of things I read in newspapers.  LLoyd J is a good judge and he certainly (with justification) was critical of things Frank Sartor did when he was Minister for Planning re Catherine Hill Bay.

There are always political influences when judges are appointed.  I think that for the most part appointments to the Supreme Court those influences are minimised.  Did Labour try to bugger Lloyd J's appointment to the Supreme Court as some form of pay back for the Gwanadalan decision?  I do not know, but it would be a dumb decision to make.  I think policis within the two Courts, and at the NSW Bar, would have as much to do with determining who gets the nod and who does not.  The upper end of the bar and bench have their own quirks.

Well, no merger so far....
