HJ - a couple more months of excuses, talking it up and bragging about past exploits and I might have the motivation to come and race Friday nights again. Good to see Thor back on top - i would never have dreamed he'd be a sprinter back when we raced the juniors together.

hj,

well, discussion in "the Friday night is back" thread has finally returned to Friday matters.

(After we filled up paragraphs ...on other matters)  !!

Every time I read how you keep up with no training I turn green.
I struggle even when I don't miss training sessions.

Don't worry about giantCFR1 granny, he's a big strong lad with known form.

Lots of fun again this Friday night.  Even better being part of it instead of on the sidelines like last week (hey CFR1, I've barely ridden in months and had no trouble staying with C grade).

Big Hitter won A with Thor 2nd again.

The handicapper got a spot in B.

Metro, Seldo, myself and many others missed a place in C but big butt Boxhead got 2nd.  What a burgler!

The bloke who won D did it real easy (Ben Aitken?).  Simply Red got a place.  How good is she going!

Friday night world champs are a real blast! (at least while it's only 2 laps...)

I just think that i'd lose heart starting in c and being thrown off the back in the first 10 metres

Don't give up so easy.

You can't do any worse than me.

After spending almost a year learning to ride track (granny-aged women can be slow and timid learners)

I got lapped every race for almost a whole track season.
The next season, I nearly got lapped for a lot of that season.

Now that the make-up of D grade has changed in the last couple of years,
I STILL  get lapped  more often than not.

And I hate getting lapped.  I keep on hoping that sometime I'll score a place.
winning IS much more fun than coming last.

AND there are a couple of "administrators" who I am aware of who would be happier if I didn't show up.
You are younger than me and you would be faster than me.  They would be more than happy for you to compete.

Just give it a go, one step at a time. (to avoid any more relapses). Don't try too hard the first few times, and before you know it,
you'll be successful in C grade.

Do you think they'd put me back in D grade if i asked? My last ride was in May and i won div2 crit. But haven't ridden since, put on 10 kg and had a relapse of Chronic fatigue.

giantcfr1,

just go ahead and ask.

If you have put on 10kg. etc in the last few months, you could end up being the "most improved" for the new season.
if you get lean and fit again.

If you don t  use it you ll loose it gai, keep up racing and keep trying to stay with the bunches By doing this, you can  be sure you will always be the strongest  that you can  be...underneath it .. thats what counts .Pleasing ourselves, enjoying each others company and being  social, thats what cycling meansto me and many more riders in newie .Its not all about being the best, just being yourself is good.

Training & Group Rides / Re: Track Training sessions

Roadies are not really that safe on the Velodrome due to the banking and the risk of hitting a pedal.

You could always go to the flat track at Townson oval and train there, there are some older guys that train there on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Thanks Boostland.

Not too concerned about the banking having spent many a formal training session on a banked concrete velodrome in Johannesburg. We would have 40 riders pacing around a 400m track with a bank as steep, with all very mindful of the angle of ascent & decent up & down the bank.

I'll check out Thomsen Oval though.
