Cycling Chat & Info / Re: Le Tour 2010
« on: July 29, 2010, 03:12:44 pm »
Highlight for me was seeing him dropped on the Col de Ramez on stage 8 after his crash

Glad you enjoyed the tour then. Only 12 months till a Lance-free tour for you, count down the days.

Actually Haddo,

San Sebastian on the 31st of July
Tour of Pologne (Poland) starts on the 1st
Tour of Wallonie has just finished
Vattenfall Cyclassics on the 15th
Eneco Tour starts on the 17th

Then we get the Vuelta, the worlds and late season classics (Giro dell'Emilia, Paris-Tours, Giro del Piemonte, Giro di Lombardia etc etc)

So plenty of Lance free racing ;D....................everyone seems to think he is some sort of cycling messiah but if you scratch the surface a bit, then well it all comes out...........................but this isn't the topic to really talk about that.

Good to see Microsoft no longer considers this site a serious security threat to my perosnal details.

Tour over for another year. Had some good moments and some real tough days. I dont know if it was just me but there seems to be a lot more mountains stages finishing at the end of a 20km descent rather than mountain top.

A highlight was seeing Lance in a long opportunist break after his tour was over.

Highlight for me was seeing him dropped on the Col de Ramez on stage 8 after his crash (on the roundabout) by Team Sky (just about the only time we ever saw them at the front besides starting their leadouts too early),  Passo de Gois 1999 anyone?? Alex Zulle 6min???  (if you don't get the reference look it up) But hey i don't really like him and i'll readily admit that.

Edit: i think that break he was in on stage 16 showed that he never had the climbing form to challenge anyway, ie. if you were challenging for the Tour you shouldn't be struggling to stay with Carlos Barredo and Perrick Fredrigo when climbing

It gives a whole new meaning to oval chainrings. You would think it would be pretty easy to throw the chain off. Also the FD looks pretty high.

It was taken at the Look Cyclosportif. Here is the link

New article by the New York Times, but it was one part in particular that caught my eye:

Quote
Two people Landis has accused of doping said on Friday that they had been contacted by antidoping officials who had asked them to cooperate with an investigation in exchange for leniency. Those people did not want their names published because they are still deciding if they want to come forward.

It is from here:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/22/sports/cycling/22cycling.html

Who do you think might come forward??   GH?, DZ?, Tyler H?, Matt W?

Is the House of Cards that is the Armstrong Empire about to come crashing down???

Ok so apparently 3 emails of floyd's were leaked, this is supposed to be one of them:

2002: I was instructed on how to use Testosterone patches by Johan Bruyneel
during the During the Dauphine Libere in June, after which I flew on a
helicopter with Mr Armstrong from the finish, I believe Grenoble, to San
Mauritz Switzerland at which point I was personally handed a box of 2.5 mg
patches in front of his wife who witnessed the exchange. About a week
later, Dr Ferrari performed an extraction of half a liter of blood to be
transfused back into me during the Tour de France. Mr Armstrong was not
witness to the extraction but he and I had lengthy discussions about it on
our training rides during which time he also explained to me the evolution
of EPO testing and how transfusions were now necessary due to the
inconvenience of the new test. He also divulged to me at that time that in
the first year that the EPO test was used he had been told by Mr Ferrari,
who had access to the new test, that he should not use EPO anymore but he
did not believe Mr Farrari and contin
ued to use it. He later, while winning the Tour de Swiss, the month before
the Tour de France, tested positive for EPO at which point he and Mr
Bruyneel flew to the UCI headquarters and made a financial agreement with
Mr. Vrubrugen to keep the positive test hidden.

2003: After a broken hip in the winter, I flew to Gerona Spain where this
time two units (half a liter each) were extracted three weeks apart. This
took place in the apartment in which Mr. Armstrong lived and in which I was
asked to stay and check the blood temperature every day. It was kept in a
small refrigerator in the closet allong with the blood of Mr Armstrong and
George Hincapie and since Mr. Armstrong was planning on being gone for a few
weeks to train he asked me to stay in his place and make sure the
electricity didn't turn off or something go wrong with the referigerator.
Then during the Tour de France the entire team, on two different occasions
went to the room that we were told and the doctor met us there to do the
transfusions. During that Tour de France I personally witnessed George
Hincapie, Lance Armstrong, Chechu Rubiera, and myself receiving blood
transfusions. Also during that Tour de France the team doctor would give my
room mate, George Hincapie an
d I a small syringe of olive oil in which was disolved andriol, a form of
ingestible testosterone on two out of three nights throughout the duration.

I was asked to ride the Vuelta a Espana that year in support of Roberto
Heras and in August, between the Tour and the Vuelta, was told to take EPO
to raise my hematocrit back up so more blood transfusions could be
performed. I was instructed to go to Lances place by Johan Bruyneel and get
some EPO from him. The first EPO I ever used was then handed to me in the
entry way to his building in full view of his then wife. It was Eprex by
brand and it came in six pre measured syringes. I used it intravenously for
several weeks before the next blood draw and had no problems with the tests
during the Vuelta. Also during this time it was explained to me how to use
Human Growth Hormone by Johan Bruyneel and I bought what I needed from Pepe
the team "trainer" who lived in Valencia along with the team doctor at that
time. While training for that Vuelta I spent a good deal of time training
with Matthew White and Michael Barry and shared the testosterone and EPO
that we had and discu
ssed the use thereof while training.

Again, during the Vuelta we were given Andriol and blood transfusions by the
team doctor and had no problems with any testing.

2004: Again the team performed two seperate blood transfusions on me, but
this time Bruyneel had become more paranoid and we did the draws by flying
to Belgium and meeting at an unknown persons appartment and the blood was
brought by "Duffy" who was at that time Johans assistant of sorts. The
second of which was performed on the team bus on the ride from the finish of
a stage to the hotel during which the driver pretended to have engine
trouble and stopped on a remote mountain road for an hour or so so the
entire team could have half a liter of blood added. This was the only time
that I ever saw the entire team being transfused in plain view of all the
other riders and bus driver. That team included Lance Armstrong, George
Hincapie and I as the only Americans.

2005: I had learned at this point how to do most of the transfusion
technicals and other things on my own so I hired Allen Lim as my assistant
to help with details and logistics. He helped Levi Leipheimer and I prepare
the transfusions for Levi and I and made sure they were kept at the proper
temperature. We both did two seperate transfusions that Tour however my
hematocrit was too low at the start so I did my first one a few days before
the start so as to not start with a deficit.

2006: Well you get the idea....... One thing of great signigicance is that
I sat down with Andy Riis and explained to him what was done in the past and
what was the risk I would be taking and ask for his permission which he
granted in the form of funds to complete the operation described. John
Lelangue was also informed by me and Andy Riis consulted with Jim Ochowitz
before agreeing.

There are many many more details that I have in diaries and am in the
process of writing into an intelligible story but since the position of USA
Cycling is that there have not been enough details shared to justify calling
USADA, I am writing as many as I can reasonably put into an email and share
with you so as to ascertain what is the process which USA Cycling uses to
proceed with such allegations.

Look forward to much more detail as soon as you can demonstrate that you can
be trusted to do the right thing.

Floyd Landis

There are alot of names in it including: LA, George H, Levi L, Dave Zabriskie, Johan B, Matt White, LA's ex wife, Andy Rihs (current owner of BMC racing team), John Lelangue (Cadel's current DS), Jim Ochowitz, Allen Lim (Radioshack nutritionist and jack of all trades), Michael Barry (current SKY rider), all the 2004 USP tour de france team ie. LA, Landis, GH, Pavel Padrnos, Checu Ruberia, José Azevedo, Manuel Beltrán, Viatcheslav Ekimov, Benjamín Noval.

I just don't get why he would name names if he doesn't have proof. I think i read on one of the news outlets articles on it, that Floyd said he has training diaries and logs. Whether they count as evidence or not who knows.

8
Ok, Floyd CLAIMS HE has finally come clean about his doping past and CLAIMS HE is gonna reveal all about doping practices ALLEGING he was introduced to by Johan Bruyneel and Lance Armstrong at US postal Service. and ALSO ALLEGING that Andy Rihs owner of Phonak personally paid for when he changed to them in 04. (Also i believe Rihs is still involved with BMC) He also ALLEGES names other top US riders such as George Hincapie, Dave Zabriskie and Levi Leipheimer. It all apparently started when someone leaked a letter he sent to a high profile US Cycling official about his doping, at Postal and methods on how it is done.

Cyclingnews apparently got the ball rolling when the somehow got some of this info

Cyclingnews article about FLandis letter

And now ESPN and Wall Street Journal have even more facts about the letter and the accusations against high profile US riders:

Cycling Chat & Info / Re: Giro d'Italia

Basso (not Masso).

Not heard much about him lately.  What are his chances?

You talking about that guy that won the 06 Giro by 10min climbing up mountain passes breathing through his nose, not even breaking a sweat, who later that same year got busted with bloodbags in Fuentes office and couldn't start the Tour that same year but didn't dope for the giro and only 'intended' to dope in the Tour? ;)

Well if that is your guy, then yes he is racing and he is now the  leader of Liquigas because Franco Pellizotti got nabbed for Bio Passport violations.  The original deal was Basso would help Pellizotti at the Giro then Pellizotti would return the favour at the Le Tour, but now they had to draft Vincenzo Nibali into the team and they are both just gonna see how they are going i guess because both were gonna peak for the Tour. But the italian press are talking him up as the leader though.

Both stayed upright during the last couple of days and are now only a few seconds off the lead. But Basso got top5 at both the Giro and Vuelta last year but has never reached the level he was at when he intended to dope. Can't TT to save his life now and is a bigger deisel than Evans in the mountains now.

My 2 cents

Training & Group Rides / Re: Training or groups rides in area

You probably may already know this but, when i was driving thru the bridge at Hexham today i noitced they have dug up a fair portion of the cycleway to lay new cement. It looked smooth enough to ride on but just be cautioned. It is about 20 past where you get off the bridge on the way back into town.

Yeah i noticed that a week or so back, i came flying down the path started rounding the curve only to see a massive crater. I had to take evasive maneuvers and bailed to the road, luckily it was that period where both sets of traffic are stopped.

I must agree with the words of Metro Commuter. Just about all shops offer setup on bikes they sell but i don't have a clue if they do it for bikes they didn't sell. I guess the only thing to do is ring them/go to the shop and ask.

I believe they probably would but it might cost you a few quid. It would also be good for business and they would be making some cash.

Cycling Chat & Info / Bicycle Defense Kit

Sick and tired of angry, aggressive and offensive motorists who just don't give a crap. Well then i have the answer for you. It is called the "Bicycle Defense Kit". It's webpage is: http://bdk.dirtnail.com/

Quote from:  From the Webpage
The Bicycle Defense Kit (BDK) offers options for dealing with aggressive motorists. Contained within an altoids tin, the 8 tools vary in detectability, potential to cause damage, and legality.
Specifically, cyclists can:

1. Issue "citizen citations" with official-ish tickets.
2. Label offending vehicles with an "I was a jerk to a cyclist" sticker.
3. Introduce the risk of paint damage with a Jolly Rancher.
4. Create certain coating cremation via DOT3 brake fluid.
5. Make cars stink worse than their exhaust with a carefully-placed stink bomb.
6. Throw a trusty bolt to dent offending traffic as it passes.
7. Lock out loony drivers by filling their keyholes with super glue.
8. Cut through tire valve stems with a utility blade.

Originally i thought it was a **** take but you can actually buy it and use it against motorists :o
