Training & Group Rides / Re: Track Training sessions

Roadies are not really that safe on the Velodrome due to the banking and the risk of hitting a pedal.

You could always go to the flat track at Townson oval and train there, there are some older guys that train there on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Thanks Boostland.

Not too concerned about the banking having spent many a formal training session on a banked concrete velodrome in Johannesburg. We would have 40 riders pacing around a 400m track with a bank as steep, with all very mindful of the angle of ascent & decent up & down the bank.

I'll check out Thomsen Oval though.

I have recently moved up from the Central Coast & have a question:

Are roadies allowed on the Newcastle Velodrome outside of designated track training & racing sessions?

Having recently given up the track bike & recovering from a collarbone reconstruction I would like to get back on the bike as soon as given the all clear, & would like to start with some controlled powertap track sessions on the road bike.

While this is available at Adcock Park, not sure if this is an option in Newcastle.

Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

Small lightweight retractable aerial carried in back pocket during Magpie Madness Months, extended & whipped overhead while riding through known attack zones works like a charm.

Training & Group Rides / Training routes around Maitland & Morpeth
« on: August 03, 2011, 02:06:56 pm »
I have recently moved from the Central Coast to Speers Point & work in Morpeth.

I am keen to train after work around the Morpeth area, especially when daylight saving kicks in.

Looking for some advice & direction re: tried & tested out & back training routes around the area between 40 and 60km (or longer).
